AYSO Gold is AYSO Region 1046’s Extra Play/Select Team program serving the community of Ahwatukee, Tempe, Chandler and surrounding. AYSO Gold emphasizes player development in a positive learning environment under AYSO’s six core philosophies. AYSO Gold teams play competitively with Club teams and AYSO all star teams across the State and beyond. Players are registered in both AYSO and AYSA for leagues and tournaments.  Players are selected for teams through open tryouts held prior to each season in May. Season runs Sept to April/May.

 Player Development

AYSO Gold emphasizes player development.

  • Teams are trained by certified coaches with planned practices.
  • Rosters are kept small to maximize learning opportunities and ensure players get as much field time as possible.
  • Each player is required to play at least half of each game.
  • AYSO emphasizes good sportsmanship from players, coaches, and parents.
  • Competitive games are scheduled to hone player’s skills.
Coaches and Referees
All AYSO Gold coaches are trained and certified (see coach bios below). All AYSO Gold matches are officiated by a certified referee crew. AYSO Gold, like our AYSO core program, is volunteer-run. Team parents contribute in various roles including team manager, treasurer, registrar, photographer, etc.

AYSO Gold Tryouts Each year, AYSO Gold 1046 players have the opportunity to tryout for the Gold team. Players are placed in the best environment for their individual development and are guaranteed a spot on either the Gold team or core development program. The Gold season runs from August through April. Players who qualify for the Gold team will be notified as soon as possible after the tryouts.

·         Tryouts for U16 and U19 may held in late summer.  Contact the respective coaches (below) for more information.

·         Fall and Spring play will generally consist of both league play and tournament play against (a) other AYSO All-Star teams from other regions and (b) club teams from AYSA. Tournament weekends will be scheduled in advance so as not to interfere with scheduled games.

·         Tryouts will be open to the public.  Players that have participated in AYSO regular season play will be invited and encouraged to try out.

·         All players will pay standard AYSO registration fees to cover insurance requirements, etc.  Individual teams will cover additional expenses including uniforms and tournament fees. Typical annual cost of around $500- $600.

·         Each Gold team coach is responsible for scheduling and securing funding for the team.

·         AYSO 1046 will attempt to secure volume/preferred pricing when possible.

·         Each team will be responsible for upholding the AYSO philosophies of: (1) Everyone Plays by ensuring that all players play 1 half of each game, (2) Balanced teams/(3)open registration by holding open tryouts and scheduling competitive games, (4) Positive coaching/(5)positive sportsmanship by providing a positive environment, positive role models, and emphasizing good sportsmanship, and (6) Player development through trained and certified coaches, planned practices, and small roster sizes.

·         Teams will decide on practice schedules and will be limited to a maximum of 3 practices per week.
